What If…something to think about

Back in the day our ancestors prepared for the winter months by storing food. As time carried on we as a society became more reliant on grocery stores, fast food and the convenience of not having to prepare. Why is it that we need to rely on others to support our lack of being prepared? I’m not saying that people should not rely on each other for certain things, but we need to be responsible for our own well being. Most people in today’s world prepare for retirement by saving and investing, but what if that money becomes worthless or is lost in the market. What if you loose your you job, are affected by a natural disaster or even a victim of identity theft……then what? Everyone needs to protect themselves from that unknown factor that can dramatically change your life. I like to keep it simple (K.I.S.S.). Sometimes I feel like we make things more complicated than they need to be. Step back and look at what you need to survive.

What are the basic items YOU/FAMILY need to survive?

Water, Food, Shelter, Protection, Medicine, Clothing, and the ability to use these items….What if you live in an area that is prone to natural disasters, do you have the ability to pick up and go? You don’t have to go crazy planning, Β just plan ahead.

One way to plan a bugout type bag would be to imagine that you and your loved ones are going on a three day hiking trip. Pack light and be prepared to walk. Maybe you may want to actually go on a weekend trip and rough it for a few days to kinda feel what it might be like. If anything it may turn out to be a good learning experience.

If you are able to stay in your home, what do you need to survive if there is no electricity, gas or water for a week or so.. My mom has a well at her home and she will fill the bathtub with water if a major storm is on the horizon. This way she can flush toilets or have water to cook and clean.

All I’m trying to get across is that we need to be responsible for our own well being, because you can’t always rely on friends, family or government to help.
